Buffalo NY Fishing Report – Observations from 06/30/2025 – 07/06/2025

Here’s our latest Buffalo NY fishing report:  Fished Lake Erie out of Buffalo, NY all week, targeting walleyes, bass, and my old friend the freshwater drum. Limits of walleyes came fast most days, with steady action from new and returning clients. From calm, roasting, bug infested days, to super early launches to avoid the crowds over the holiday weekend, to days that had just the right kinda chop – limits of walleyes happened regardless.  Everyone from birthday crews to young anglers got their fish. It’s been insane. Full details in the report.

Days on the water: 7

Who we fished with: friends/clients

Where we fished: Lake Erie

What we caught:  walleye, smallmouth bass, freshwater drum

Tactics:  bottom bouncing worm harnesses, trolling divers and planer boards with harnesses and spoons; casting finesse baits

06/30/2025 – Shared Birthday on the Water

Fished Lake Erie out of Buffalo, NY for walleyes with Joe, Lincoln, and Jacob.  This day was my birthday and Lincoln’s birthday – both of us super stoked to be spending it on the water.  Every year since I started this business, I’ve spent my birthday fishing with clients, and it’s always been good.  This day was no different.  We got a quick limit of walleyes and transitioned to bass/drum fishing.  What a day!

07/01/2025 – Big Waves = Big Action

Fished Lake Erie out of Buffalo, NY for walleyes with new clients Andy and Jeff.  SW winds gusting into the 20mph range had the lake rolling with 2-4’ waves.  I love it out there when it’s like that – all but the most adventurous stay home, leaving the lake wide open “for activities.”  The bite was incredible.  We limited out before seasickness became a factor.  Sorry, picture taking took a back seat while we were negotiating the chaos.

07/02/2025 – The Whispering Continues

Fished Lake Erie out of Buffalo, NY for walleyes with the Whisperer and Bruce.  Again, we did what we always do and the old guys got home in time for their afternoon nap.

07/03/2025 – The Annual “Larry and the Boys” Sesh

Fished a multispecies trip out of Buffalo, NY with Larry, Ian, and Fin. I’ve been fishing with Larry and Ian for years now.  Larry’s youngest boy, Fin, joined the team last year.  This is a fishy crew – they live in FL and fish down there often – so we always have a blast.  In all our previous sessions, we targeted bass and drum.  When they heard walleyes were going to be on the docket for this year, all were excited.  Young Fin (he’s 8) told me catching a walleye was on his bucket list.  We accomplished that and then some.  Another awesome day.

07/04/2025 – Happy 4th of July

Fished Lake Erie out of Buffalo, NY for walleyes with new clients Steve, Nicole, and Eric.  This crew took the trek up here in an RV from PA and stayed at the KOA on the island.  All were stoked with the opportunity to cook up some fish while on their camping trip.  Action was far crazier than I’ve experienced this year.  Rare was the moment we didn’t have a fish on the line.

07/05/2025 – The Early Bird

Fished Lake Erie for walleyes out of Buffalo, NY with LJ and Kris.  I’m grateful they were ready and willing enough to start super early to avoid the jams at the launch.  We got our limit quickly.  Weirdly through – it didn’t start getting really good until the sun came up…or was it that I just wasn’t crossing many fish early in the morning like I did on previous sessions?  It took us a little bit – but it ended up being a nice steady pace about 30 mins into the morning.  Good times!

07/06/2025 – Experimenting

Fished Lake Erie for walleyes out of Buffalo, NY with Jake, Danny, and Liam.  There was a little chop (for once) and I’ve been wanting to run a 4 dipsy + worm burner program in such a situation.  On calm days, I prefer fishing boards – you can intercept those spooky fish far better in those situations.  However, when it’s rolling out there, fish aren’t nearly as spooky.  On those days, I love running divers – they’re super simple.  I just haven’t had many opportunities to do that lately.  Well, we did.  It worked very well.  Got our limit and beat the heat.  No bigs caught – lots of smaller fish (better eaters) – so no photos taken.

Seasonal Assessment/General Observations

Short summary this week, folks – I fished every day and slept very little.  Honestly, there isn’t much to say beyond the walleye action is absolutely insane right now.  Best I’ve ever seen it.  I don’t know when it’ll end but I don’t think it will be any time soon.  The bait is thick out there and the fish are numerous.

Buffalo NY Fishing Report – Forecast for 07/07/2025 – 07/13/2025

Weather Breakdown

Forecast Commentary

It looks like another perfect week to fish walleyes, folks.  Every day looks fishable.  I’ll be out all but one day.  I’m getting the boat cleaned on Monday.  After that – walleyes will continue to be the daily target.  Stay tuned.

Stay healthy my friends – mentally and physically,

Ryan
